How Can I Diagnose What’s Bottlenecking My Gaming Performance?

I recently made some upgrades to my gaming setup, swapping my RTX 2070 Super for an RTX 3080 and increasing my RAM from 32GB to 64GB. However, I kept the same CPU, an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. When I play games like Helldivers 2 or Monster Hunter World, my FPS hasn't really changed much. I checked the Task Manager and saw my GPU usage was around 40-55%, RAM at 16%, and CPU between 50-66%. Since none of my components seem to be over 70% usage, I'm unsure what's limiting my performance. Is there something else I need to check that I might be missing?

Have you waited for memory training or adjusted your motherboard’s settings for your hardware? My board required a few tweaks in the BIOS, particularly for XMP/EXPO profiles. Once I let it sit a bit after booting, the profiles loaded, and my boot time improved dramatically.

I haven't made any adjustments like that, but my motherboard does recognize all 4 RAM slots. Initially, it showed one slot as empty, but I reseated the sticks until it detected everything properly.

Helldivers 2 is pretty CPU-intensive, so your Ryzen 7 3700X might be holding you back. I went from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5800X and saw a huge improvement, going from about 45 fps to a solid 60 fps in high settings with an RTX 3070. If you're looking to upgrade, I'd suggest looking at the 5800X or the 5700X; they work great with an 8-core setup like yours!

I tried out Monster Hunter World after Helldivers and had similar FPS issues, so it sounds like a CPU upgrade might be necessary after all.
