How Can I Effectively Compress Over 200 GB of Video Files?

I have a huge folder filled with over 200 GB worth of game screen recordings. I've already deleted the unusable ones, so only the ones I want to keep are left. What's the best method to compress them without sacrificing too much quality? I need to make space on my 500GB hard drive for other files, and I'm looking for options that really work.

Honestly, you're not going to save much space by compressing video files. They tend to be already processed to keep size manageable. A better long-term solution is to just buy an external hard drive; they are super affordable these days and will give you plenty of space without quality loss.

Yeah, I agree! Just get a decent external drive. It'll save you a lot of headaches down the line.

Look, instead of fiddling with compression, just accept that you’ll need more storage. A 1TB external drive should do the trick, and if the videos are really important, consider getting two drives for backups. Better safe than sorry!

Another option is to edit down your recordings to capture the best moments and trash the rest. Raw footage can take up a ton of space, and you might find that a highlighted montage is all you really need to keep.

That's a good point! I hadn’t thought about editing them into a highlights reel. Definitely sounds like a plan!

If you want to give compression a shot despite the quality loss, HandBrake is a great tool to try. It lets you choose different codecs, and .MP4 is often the best for quality vs. size. Just don't expect to save a ton of space!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely check out HandBrake. I’m hoping to keep as much quality as possible.
