How Can I Effectively Review AI-Generated Code When I’m Not Familiar with the Technology?

Hey folks, I'm a frontend developer mainly working with React, but I've started using AI tools to assist with my development tasks. Occasionally, I'm asked to handle backend work and other areas outside my main expertise. I find that AI can generate functional code, but I'm unsure how to effectively review it, especially when it's for technologies I'm not well-versed in. For instance, if the AI produces backend logic or intricate code, how do I ensure it's accurate? How can I evaluate aspects like performance, security, or adherence to best practices if I'm not fully familiar with the language or framework? I'm keen on leveraging AI as a productivity tool, but I also want to ensure I'm not trusting outputs that I don't completely understand. I'd love to hear your experiences and approaches on this!

One suggestion is to focus on learning the language or framework that the AI is working in. If you feel like you can’t program without AI, it might be worth taking a step back to build your foundational skills first. This will make it easier to assess the code generated by AI.

That makes sense! But I'm in a tough spot. I was hired as a frontend developer and now have to tackle backend tasks too. I really want to learn while performing my job. So, what's a good way to combine learning with using AI effectively?
