Why is my CPU running so hot at idle?

I recently noticed that my AMD Ryzen 7 7700X is running unusually hot at idle, sitting around 85°C right after startup. I can still game without it shutting down, but it gets as high as 95°C. I've already re-applied thermal paste on my NZXT AIO cooler and even replaced it with another new NZXT AIO, but the temperatures haven't changed at all. I checked with NZXT, and they suspect the pump is failing. As a last resort, I've also tinkered with the AIO speed settings, but nothing seems to lower the temps. I ran this setup for over a year without issues, and I'm really stumped here. Any ideas on what might be causing this?

It sounds like there might be some process on your system that's using a lot of CPU power without you realizing it. Try checking your task manager to see if anything is consuming an unusual amount of resources. Sometimes rogue processes can cause high temps even when you think the system is idle.

I had a similar issue where one process was using a constant 40W at idle too. I ended up killing all tasks thinking that would help, but I must have missed something vital. Make sure you check background processes closely!
