I've been using my PC build for about 8 years now, and it's still going strong for most games at low to medium settings. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget for an entirely new setup, but I'm open to upgrading a few components. Aside from overclocking or adding more storage, what other improvements can I make to enhance the longevity of my build? Here are my current specs:
- CPU: i5 6600K 3.5 GHz
- MOBO: MSI Z170a Gaming M7
- GPU: GTX 1070 FTW 8GB
- RAM: 16GB DDR4-3000
- CPU Cooler: Cryorig H7
- PSU: EVGA 650 G2
- Storage: 850 Evo 500GB SSD

Your build is quite balanced currently, with DDR4 RAM already in place. If you're looking to upgrade, consider going for a newer motherboard and CPU combo, but this could lead you close to a full rebuild. Just make sure you really need those upgrades before diving in.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it! If your build is still serving your needs and playing the games you like decently, you might just want to hold off on any upgrades for now.
Consider upgrading your storage. I started with a 500GB M.2 SSD and quickly ran out of space. I ended up adding a 1TB HDD and another 1TB M.2 SSD, and it's been great not having to worry about storage anymore!
If you’re satisfied with the performance in the games you play, maybe a storage upgrade is all you need. Sometimes it’s best to hold off on upgrades unless there’s a real need.
