How Can I Fix My SSD Stuck at 100% Disk Usage?

I've been having a frustrating issue with my SSD, which is stuck at 100% disk usage every time I try to load anything, whether it's downloads, videos, or even new areas in games. I've done everything I can think of: indexing, cleaning, empting cache, and restarting my computer, but nothing seems to work. I even replaced my old SSD, thinking it was just too old, but I'm facing the exact same problem with the new one. Currently, I'm stuck installing a 5.7GB file for Half-Life 2, and the disk usage is still at 100%. Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this?

Have you checked the Task Manager? You can click on the 'Disk' tab to see which process is hogging the disk usage. Sometimes, there are stubborn Windows processes that can run amok, like Windows Update or certain antivirus programs. They can really spike the disk usage to 100% for no good reason.

I looked in Task Manager, and the only thing using the disk significantly was Steam.

If you have a second disk available, adding it might help. This can reduce the load on the primary disk and maybe drop the usage down to a manageable level.

I added another disk, and while it helped a bit, the main disk is still at 100% while the new one is at 80%.

What model SSD are you using? Also, checking CrystalDiskInfo might give you some insights. High data writing speeds can slow down performance on any SSD, especially if you're trying to write a lot of data at once.

I was using a 2TB external element, and it suddenly dropped to writing only 10MB/s. It's weird; now I got a Seagate Onetouch that's only writing at about 40MB/s.
