I'm trying to format my 8TB external hard drive, which is currently FAT32, to NTFS. I believe there are limitations with FAT32 since Windows doesn't recognize drives larger than 2TB formatted this way. I've tried using disk management and diskpart in Command Prompt, but the drive isn't being recognized at all. Do I need to use any third-party software for this? I don't have any data on the drive that I need to save. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

FAT32 does have limitations, like not supporting files over 4GB or partitions larger than 2TB. You might want to double-check how the drive is formatted. Which system did you use to format it originally? It could help narrow things down. Also, try connecting the drive to another system to see if it's recognized there.

I remember formatting it with either Windows 7 or 10; I even used a program called 'FAT32 GUI Formatter' once. It was mainly for game storage for a PS2, but I guess it was too big for that.
