How can I get rid of ants in my laptop without spending money or opening it?

I've got a bit of an ant problem with my Acer Aspire 3 laptop—they got in a few days ago, and while I don't think there's a whole colony, there are definitely a lot of them. I've already tried the moat method, but it didn't work. I don't have a mini vacuum, canned air, or the funds to take it to a repair shop. I also don't trust myself to open it up and clean it out. As a broke college student, I really need some affordable suggestions. Help me out!

It sounds like you're really in a tough spot. If you can't afford repairs or can't open it yourself, have you thought about finding an IT student who might be willing to help you out? Maybe you can offer them a pizza or something as trade for their help!

Try placing some sugar or ant bait a little distance from your laptop. They might just wander off to investigate the food instead of sticking around the laptop. It's a long shot, but it might help clear them out without needing anything more than a little patience!

When I had a similar issue, I set out a pile of sugar away from my computer. The ants loved it and totally ditched my laptop for the sugar. Once they left, I cleaned everything up and raised my laptop off the floor. Hopefully, that way, they lose interest and won’t come back!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely try that.

You might want to be careful since ants can cause serious issues inside a laptop, like shorts or even fires. If you're unable to open it up or buy tools, your best bet is to find someone you trust who knows about computers to help you out—maybe even borrow a can of compressed air from them if they have it. Otherwise, it might be time to consider that it could be time to let the laptop go if it gets worse.
