I'm a high school student attending a very small school that doesn't offer any coding classes. I've been curious about programming for a while now. A couple of years ago, I took an online university computer science course that introduced me to low-level concepts and Scheme. As a kid, I experimented with coding on a TI-84 calculator and created some cool projects. Recently, I enjoyed a summer camp class focused on HTML and CSS, and I'm eager to learn more about coding and figure out if it's the right direction for me. I'm also wondering about the implications of AI on programming careers. How significant is the threat of AI, and should I still consider pursuing a career in programming? I enjoy the actual coding process and want to ensure I'm not just guiding robots.

Regarding AI, don't panic! It's less about replacing coders and more about enhancing their abilities. Learn to use AI as a helpful resource, much like a power tool for a carpenter. Start by picking a programming language, and choose projects that intrigue you. There’s a wide world to explore in coding, so follow what you love!

If you enjoyed HTML and CSS, keep exploring web development! You'll eventually want to learn JavaScript too, as it's essential for web front-end development. Programming is like a choose-your-own-adventure book with numerous paths—specifically in web development, backend, data science, and more. Take your time experimenting with different areas that pique your interest, have fun with it, and don't hesitate to dive deeper into how things work behind the scenes!

Starting with Python is a fantastic idea because it's user-friendly and great for building various projects. Once you get into coding, you'll realize that languages are just tools to get the job done. So don’t stress too much about which language to choose; focus on building things that excite you. Knowing how to program will likely become an essential skills, similar to typing. As for AI, it's just another tool in the coder's toolkit—don't let it deter you!

Honestly, just dive right into coding! Pick a language like Python and search for beginner courses on YouTube; you'll find tons of resources that break down the basics. AI is just a tool, not a replacement for your coding aspirations. Learning how to code will always give you an edge, even if tools like AI start generating code. The more skilled you are, the better you'll utilize those tools.

If HTML and CSS are your starting points, the next logical step would be JavaScript, which opens up a lot of web development opportunities. Also, keep in mind that AI isn’t replacing programmers anytime soon. Think of it as a complement to your skill set, helping you solve problems faster. Coding is a great path—stick with it and keep pushing the boundaries of what you can create!
