I'm trying to get VLC media player to work on my PC running Fedora 43 with KDE Plasma. I installed it through the software center, but none of the available versions seem to work for me. I've attempted various troubleshooting methods and asked tools like ChatGPT for help, but I keep getting suggestions to repair flatpaks or reinstall scripts, which haven't helped at all. While I can run VLC from the command line, if I try to open a video by double-clicking it or launching VLC from the start menu, nothing happens.
I've also looked online and read that I might need to install some codecs, which I've done, but I'm still stuck. It's been hours of trial and error, and I just want VLC to run without having to go through the terminal. I love using Linux and want to understand it better, even if Fedora is a bit more challenging than Ubuntu. Still, it feels frustrating that something as simple as installing VLC has turned into a headache. Any help to get VLC running smoothly would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like you might be missing some codecs! You should check out the RPM Fusion guides for setting up the multimedia codecs. Here are the links:
- [RPM Fusion Configuration](https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration)
- [RPM Fusion Multimedia Howto](https://rpmfusion.org/Howto/Multimedia)
Also, make sure you try reinstalling VLC after running the codec installation.

Thanks for sharing the links! When I tried installing the codecs, it told me they were already installed. I ended up wiping all of VLC's data, rebooting, and then installing VLC and the codecs again. After that, VLC actually worked for both opening the program and video files!
