How Can I Improve WiFi in My Room for My PC Setup?

I'm struggling with getting a good WiFi connection in my room, which is making it tough to use my PC setup. Right now, my entire setup has to be in my parent's room since the WiFi router is located there. Even though the router is just one wall away, I only get 1-2 bars in my room, and the connection is too weak for streaming or competitive gaming. I have a 15m ethernet cable, but I can't drill holes to run it through the wall, and if I use it, I won't be able to close the door. My internet speeds are great at 800mbs when connected to the main router, but only 450mbs when I'm in my parents' room. I have a Windows 11 PC with all current hardware. Any tips on how to solve this?

Have you thought about using a powerline adapter? They can transmit internet through your electrical wiring, and some models even double as WiFi repeaters. Connecting one to your main router could give you a solid wired connection without losing speed!

If you're in the US, check out mesh networks online—they're pretty affordable and can help boost your signal, but only if your walls aren't too thick. Otherwise, you should go for that ethernet cable solution. Also, ensure your PC’s antenna points toward the router for the best reception!

A better wireless card with a solid antenna might help, depending on your wall type. But if your walls are like lathe and plaster with mesh, that could be blocking the signal completely, kind of like a Faraday cage!

Totally true! Don't forget about old buildings with concrete or brick walls—they're even worse for WiFi signals!

A quick and simple fix could be to use your mobile as a hotspot. Just connect to the WiFi, enable the hotspot, and link your PC to that. It’s not super ideal but might work in a pinch until you find a more permanent solution!

Honestly, running an ethernet cable seems to be the best solution, especially since it's such a short distance to your PC. You can use zip ties and a stapler to keep the cable tidy along the floor, so it doesn’t interfere with closing doors. Just make sure everything is secure, so you don’t risk damaging the wires.
