How Can I Incorporate C and Common Lisp Interactions in My Fanfiction?

I'm working on some crossover fanfiction that merges the worlds of Tron: Legacy and The Amazing Digital Circus. Even though most fanfic readers might not dive deep into programming, I believe it's important for fans who understand the tech to enjoy it, too. Recently, I found out that Caine, the AI from The Amazing Digital Circus, was coded in Common Lisp, while characters and systems from Tron likely use C. My research suggests that while C and Common Lisp can interact via the Common Foreign Function Interface (CFFI), that's a modern solution that's been around only since 2005, and these characters originate from the '90s. So my question is, are there ways for C and Common Lisp to engage with each other that predate CFFI, or should I just improvise their interactions in my story?

This is such a cool idea! Mixing real programming interactions into fanfic adds a unique twist. You're right that pre-2005 integrations would be less straightforward, but they did exist! Early foreign function interfaces were more manual and platform-dependent. These characters could communicate through shared memory, pipes, or even socket connections, which would force them to figure out how to understand each other—a great way to reflect their character dynamics!

Haha, I love the idea of Rinzler getting lost in the digital world only to bump into Caine! It creates such a humorous and confusing situation. Plus, treating Caine as a kind of Master Control Program adds an exciting layer to your story. Glad I could help with the connections!
