I'm looking for a way to efficiently manage my mum's computer backups. Currently, there's a NAS performing daily backups, which I think is unnecessary since there's also a local backup. I want to reduce the NAS backup frequency to once or twice a week, but the issue is that my mum's usage is inconsistent, so I can't guarantee the computer will be awake for the scheduled backups. I've seen some solutions that seem outdated and don't meet my needs, especially since I'd prefer to avoid setting up complex tasks in Windows. The only useful software I found is paid, and most other suggestions are quirky or only activate the computer manually. Does anyone have ideas for a lightweight Windows application that can keep the computer awake based on a schedule?

Have you looked into Wake-on-LAN? It lets you turn on devices remotely, but I’m not sure if it can keep the computer awake during the backup process. Still, it might be worth considering for starting things up.
Check out WakeMeOnLAN. It's a handy tool for testing if your computer can wake on command, but it requires another device to send the wake-up signals. Unfortunately, it lacks a scheduling feature too, so it might not be a complete solution for your needs.
Yeah, I looked into WakeMeOnLAN as well, but since it needs another computer to be online, it doesn't really solve my problem of keeping the computer awake.

I know about Wake-on-LAN, but does it actually keep the computer awake while the backup is running? That part isn’t clear to me.
