How Can I Kickstart My Web Design Agency and Attract Clients?

Hey everyone! So, I've been freelancing in web design for about two years now. I'm comfortable with CMS platforms like Webflow, WordPress, and Wix, and I can even do custom coding. However, my biggest struggle is finding clients. I used to get some work through a friend who outsourced to me, but that's not a regular thing anymore. I'm considering starting my own agency where clients can come directly to me. I've set up a website and social media accounts for the agency, but I haven't given them any attention yet. Now, I want to fully commit and need your advice on how to attract customers. Should I focus on cold calls, meta ads, or something else? What strategies have worked for you?

I've been doing some research on this too. There are tons of resources and tools out there that can help you get clients. I have a few ideas and would be more than happy to share them with you if you're interested!

Don't overlook the power of emails! Make a list of local businesses and reach out directly. Be genuine in your request for work and explain what you can do for them. Even if it's just small tweaks, once they see your work, they'll remember you and potentially refer you to others. I've had a good success rate with emails, so give it a shot!

It's tough starting out, but the first thing you need to do is figure out your niche. Decide if you want to be a CMS-focused agency or go the custom coding route. I went for custom code because it gives you a unique selling point. Because there's so much competition with cheap WordPress options, being able to custom code will help you stand out. Focus on solving real problems for potential clients and understand exactly how you can improve their websites. Also, setting up a proper business identity with LLC and payment processing is key! Make sure people judge you based on your work, not your name.

Exactly! Having a unique angle can really help you market yourself better. Clients want to know what makes you different.

If you're using WordPress and Wix, it might be worth looking into more specialized platforms. Check out tools like this web design lead platform I've been using. It makes it easy to find companies that don't have a website or need updates. Inbound clients can be tough, so sometimes cold outreach is the way to go. I managed to land four new clients in one day with this approach!

That sounds awesome! I’ll definitely look into that platform. It's hard to get clients without a solid strategy.
