How Can I Learn Faster as a New Cloud Engineer?

I'm transitioning from a background in chemical engineering, and I've worked hard to learn coding and gain practical experience through personal projects. Recently, I landed a job as a Cloud Engineer 1, and I'm really pushing myself to understand the nuances of this role. Some days I feel on top of things, while other days I feel overwhelmed. I'm looking for tips on how to accelerate my learning, especially since I'm currently working in a Terraform-heavy environment, which I find easier than using GUIs. Any resources or advice (and encouragement) would be greatly appreciated. I've been in this role for about two months now!

There's a lot to explore as you aim for that 'senior engineer' title. To start strong, consider picking up some basic scripting skills—Python or Golang are great choices. Since you're in a Terraform-focused environment, think about small projects that could help you apply your skills, like automating a cloud resource inventory report or tweaking existing resources. Take your time with this; slowly build your understanding of DevOps practices, and don't skip learning about version control with Git. Remember, the aim is to find a pace that works for you, and eventually, you'll feel more confident in your growth.

Absolutely! Starting with small, manageable tasks is key. Once you get comfortable, you can layer on more complex aspects like CI/CD and even consider cloud certifications for deeper insights.
