How can I make Linux Lite run faster alongside Windows 10?

I'm a complete beginner and just installed Linux Lite as part of a dual-boot setup with Windows 10. I'm hoping to improve performance, aiming for quicker boot times and better multitasking on Linux while keeping Windows as a backup in case anything goes wrong. I'm willing to try both command-line and GUI tweaks to enhance Linux Lite's performance. For context, my laptop is a Lenovo Ideapad G50-80 with an Intel i3 5005U CPU, 4GB of RAM, an AMD Radeon R5M330 GPU, and a 1TB HDD. Any advice would be appreciated!

Upgrading your RAM to 8GB would really help, as 4GB can be a bit limiting. You'll likely notice a significant performance boost with more memory. Also, consider testing out a few lightweight Linux distros like Mint or Zorin by creating bootable live disks to find one that suits you best!

Make sure to disable hibernate/suspend in Windows right away; it can mess with dual-boot setups and even cause Windows to get corrupted. If you can, max out your RAM—this laptop can handle up to 16GB. Also, considering your HDD's age, switching to an SSD would greatly improve speed. Don't forget to check for the latest video drivers in Linux, as that could make a difference too.

Be cautious with commands you find online! A joke that sometimes circulates is about deleting language packs, but that can end up deleting critical system files. Always double-check what you’re doing before running commands, especially if you're new to Linux!

Just a tip: always mention your distro and hardware when asking for help. That makes it easier for people to give you useful advice. You're in good hands here, just keep experimenting and asking questions!

Linux Lite is usually faster than Windows, so if you’re noticing slowness, let us know what specifically is causing issues. It might just be an adjustment period as you get used to Linux, but some apps might not be optimized yet. Tell us about any slowness you’re experience!
