How Can I Make Linux Look Like Mac OS 9?

I'm looking to get into Linux mainly for aesthetic purposes. I've got an old G3 iMac that I want to modify by removing the old internals and fitting a mini-PC inside to use the CRT monitor. I've heard Linux can help achieve a visual emulation of the old Mac OS 9 interface while allowing for modern functionality, but I'm not interested in replicating the actual operating system's features, just the look. I'm fairly new to Linux, having been a Windows user for 15 years. I have almost no experience with the terminal but I'm ready to learn if it helps me achieve the aesthetic I'm after. Can anyone suggest beginner-friendly Linux distributions that allow for visual customization? I've heard that Mint could work, but I'd like to know if I can change its appearance easily. How tough is it to apply themes to different distributions, and are some more suited for this than others? I came across a theme called 'Platinum 9,' but I'm clueless about XFCE and how to set it up. Any guidance would be appreciated!

You don't need to worry too much about the terminal. Just check out some guides and you can start with any distro. For instance, try GNOME and add some extensions to make it look cool. Others have shared their journeys online, and it can give you a start!

Ah, I remember Mac OS 9 fondly! If you're diving into XFCE, it's super customizable and might be exactly what you need for that retro vibe. It can definitely pull off a classic Mac look if you put the right themes and icons together. Just keep exploring, and you'll figure it out!

There was this project years ago called Mac4Lin that aimed to enhance the Mac-like look on Linux. I'm not sure if it's updated now, but it could be worth looking into. That might help you get some inspiration or a good starting point!

I think there's also Asahi, which runs on Apple silicon now. Not exactly the same, but worth checking out for a modern Mac experience!
