How Can I Make the Most of My Downtime as a Junior DotNet Developer?

I'm a Junior Developer working remotely and I've noticed that my workload can be pretty inconsistent. Some days are packed with tasks that challenge me and help me learn quickly, while other days are really slow, and I don't have much to do. I sometimes do self-study, and while I manage to complete my tasks with occasional hiccups, I'm left wondering if I should be doing more. What should I focus on during those slower days?

I've experienced the same ups and downs in my work routine. Keeping a todo list really helps me manage my focus and reduces that overwhelmed feeling. Some items might be for learning, but I also include smaller tasks, like updating ticket statuses or following up with clients. Just know that feeling fluctuates is completely normal!

Honestly, when you can, aim for a busier role. It helps you learn at a faster pace, especially if you have a manageable work-life balance. Being consistently engaged keeps that sense of urgency, and you'll gain a lot more experience that way.

Try to use your downtime to explore the codebase you’re working with. If there's a ticketing system in place, look for any low-priority tickets that you could take a crack at. Often, tasks get put on hold, and completing these can alleviate some pressure from the team. Just make sure you know what's acceptable in terms of your work process.
