I'm working with a Dell OptiPlex Micro 3090 that keeps automatically updating its BIOS to version 2.28. This new version breaks the functionality of the second display port on my device, while version 2.27 works perfectly fine. Each time I downgrade to 2.27, the system tries to reinstall the 2.28 BIOS after a reboot. I've tried uninstalling Dell SupportAssist and disabling driver updates through the registry, as well as turning off the Windows Update service, but nothing has worked so far. Since I'm troubleshooting this remotely, I can't access the BIOS directly to turn off UEFI capsule updates. Does anyone have advice on how to stop this BIOS update from reinstalling?

The BIOS might not be the issue. When the 2.28 BIOS came out, we had to reinstall the latest Intel graphics drivers to get the second display port working again. It reverted to the Basic Display Adapter driver after the update, which caused issues.
You need to uninstall Dell Command Update if it's installed. Also, check in the BIOS and disable any mention of Dell Command Update there. Otherwise, it will just reinstall the command update on reboot, which is frustrating!
Make sure UEFI capsule firmware updates are still enabled in the BIOS settings. Windows can push BIOS updates through that, even if you've removed SupportAssist.
If you're having trouble with it automatically installing, use the Microsoft tool wushowhide.diagcab to hide the BIOS update. It’s a quick fix for blocking updates remotely. Also, check if any tasks related to Dell Command Update are still running, as they'll push those updates regardless of SupportAssist being uninstalled.
Have you contacted Dell support? This sounds like a specific problem with your system. Firmware updates typically work as expected. You might want to check if there’s a new setting in the BIOS since the update.
