How can I prevent my gaming laptop’s battery from getting ruined by keeping it plugged in?

Hey everyone! I recently bought my very first gaming laptop, and I'm super excited to finally use it for gaming instead of just university work. While I'm thrilled about the performance boost compared to my old PC, I have a concern about the battery. I'm worried that keeping it plugged in while gaming might damage the battery life, especially since it's not that great to begin with. Should I be concerned about this at all? Do modern laptops have any built-in protections for the battery? I'd really appreciate any advice as I'm quite new to this laptop thing!

If you're worried about your battery life, some gaming laptops let you limit charging to around 80%. You can find this option in the BIOS or sometimes through software that comes with the laptop. Even if it sounds scary, batteries are usually easy to replace if needed, especially in gaming laptops.

You can also change the max charge in the BIOS settings to 80%, and then just keep it plugged in all the time without any harm to the battery.

If you have a Lenovo, check out the Lenovo Vantage software—it's got a feature called 'conservation mode' that can help with this. I set mine to charge up to 70%, and it’s working great!

Yeah, I did the same and it really helps in extending battery life! Just adjust it if you need to unplug for a bit.

Generally, keeping your laptop plugged in is okay. Most laptops stop charging the battery when it hits 100% and just run off the power supply. The real battery wear comes from frequent charging cycles, especially those that go from 80% to 100%. Set your laptop to start charging at a lower percentage if you don't unplug it often, like 90% or even 80%. If you're gaming with heavy loads, then aim for that lower threshold to avoid constant topping off.

Totally agree! If your laptop uses battery while gaming, it might mean the charger isn’t exactly right for it. That can cause wear.

Some laptops can run directly off the power supply with the battery removed, but keep in mind that's not the ideal setup for gaming.
