Hi everyone! I recently built a new PC and I'm excited to switch to Linux Mint. I created a bootable USB stick using unetbootin, but instead of booting up normally, I'm stuck at the grub console. It says I need to load a kernel first, and I'm totally lost on how to proceed. After a frustrating day, I'm reaching out for help! What are the steps to successfully install Linux Mint on my new computer?

I highly recommend using a different tool for creating your bootable USB. Unetbootin can be hit or miss. Try using Ventoy or the Fedora Media Writer instead. Also, make sure Secure Boot is turned off, as that can cause issues too.

Thanks for the advice! I ended up switching from unetbootin to balenaEtcher, and it did the trick. I was super surprised since I used the same ISO. I think the tool really made a difference. No secure boot issues so far, but I’ll keep that in mind. Appreciate the help!

BalenaEtcher is another option, but I've heard it’s been a bit buggy lately for many users. It might be worth trying since it usually avoids some of the common issues that unetbootin causes. Just be cautious, and if you keep having problems, definitely check out Ventoy — it’s known to be fantastic for making bootable media!
