Hey everyone! I recently bought an HP Pavilion laptop from a US website, and now both my C and D drives are locked by BitLocker. The issue is, I've never set up a personal Microsoft account that could be linked to a BitLocker Recovery Key, but the system is asking for it. I've tried all the usual methods: checking my Microsoft account, Azure AD, and even delving into BIOS settings and recovery options through Command Prompt and Disk Manager, but no luck at all. Right now, I can only access the laptop using a Live CD. I'm really in a bind here and can't reach Microsoft Support. Does anyone have suggestions on how I can regain access to my drives and keep all my data? If you've dealt with recovering a BitLocker key or have alternatives, please share your insights!

No key, no data. Just a hard rule. When you set up the PC, was there already an account linked? The BitLocker key is often synced with the first Microsoft account used, which might not be yours.
If you have admin access, sign in with your Microsoft account. You can search for BitLocker and look for options to back it up to your account. It might let you retrieve the key if it's there.
Just a heads up—BitLocker can be a pain if you didn’t back up the recovery key when setting it up. It's usually safer for corporate use where they have recovery options. At this point, it sounds like you've already crossed that bridge, unfortunately.
Unfortunately, without the recovery key, there’s not much you can do. That’s the whole point of BitLocker—it’s designed to keep your data secure. Not even Microsoft can access the encrypted data without that key.
I'm afraid the answer is still no. No key means you can't recover the data from the drives. It’s a tough situation!

Exactly! If you used a work or school account, it might be there too. Double-check if you logged in with an email and try accessing the Microsoft account with that.
