I recently found an iPhone 5s while going through some old belongings. It belonged to a family member who has since passed away. The phone doesn't have a lock-screen passcode, but it's still signed in to their Apple ID with Find My iPhone enabled. I'd like to erase the old messages, apps, and personal information, then use it as a basic digital camera. Is there a legitimate way to remove the Apple ID and reset the device?

Find My iPhone means the phone is protected by Activation Lock. You can’t legitimately remove that lock just by restoring the device, and most apps or videos claiming to bypass it are scams or only provide temporary, limited workarounds. The original owner would need to remove the iPhone from their Apple account. Since they’ve passed away, the family or estate representative can contact Apple Support and ask what documentation they require. Without Apple approving the request or the account holder removing it, the phone can’t be set up for normal use.
