How can I remove a potential virus from my laptop?

I stumbled upon an app related to OnlyFans in my downloads folder, which I didn't download or even search for online. Without thinking, I clicked on it, and now, about two weeks later, I've noticed that my Chrome browser has been running slower, which makes me think that it might be a virus. I'm really looking for help on how to fix this issue and ensure my laptop is safe again!

Keep an eye out for where the app downloaded from. Sometimes you can't see the original link, but it's useful to check if the file has been moved elsewhere. Making sure you don’t download anything suspicious moving forward is really important!

Honestly, the best move might be to reformat your computer. I know it sounds extreme, but when you're dealing with malware, it's hard to be sure if you've really got rid of it. If you do decide to go this route, you can have peace of mind that it’s fixed! Also, think about how it got there in the first place—perhaps someone else used your laptop or you inadvertently downloaded it from somewhere else.

Running Malwarebytes in Safe Mode is a great option for getting rid of those tricky viruses that won’t budge in normal mode. This way, the troublesome software doesn’t load, making it easier to clean your system. If you have backups, consider wiping and reinstalling Windows, but make sure you don’t restore any sketchy .exe files that could bring the issue back.
