How can I remove iCloud Photos from my iPhone without resetting it?

I'm trying to get my iCloud Photos off my iPhone XR without having to factory reset the whole device. I need to use an app that requires full access to the camera roll and contacts, which is really frustrating given how malicious this app is. I've already tried to turn off iCloud Photos, but it still shows 89,000 photos, which seems impossible, considering the device can't hold that many. It might be a snapshot of my library from several months ago. I've updated the phone to iOS 18.7.1, but that hasn't helped either. I've toggled iCloud Photos off and on, and while it says it will delete them, nothing happens. I'm looking for any other solutions to get the iCloud photos off without having to wipe the phone clean.

You might have to check the iPhone Storage section in the Settings. Sometimes you can delete documents and data for apps, but I understand that might not show up for Photos. Honestly, the easiest way could be to just factory reset, even though it’s super frustrating. Just keep in mind that if this app is behaving suspiciously, it might not be worth it after all!

Out of curiosity, what app are you trying to use that requires such invasive permissions? I've heard of some shady ones that basically need all your data to function properly.

I get your pain! I went through something similar. A full restore is usually the last resort, but it might be worth it if you can't delete anything. I once signed into iCloud after a reset and immediately turned off iCloud Photos, but it just kept downloading. Sometimes, starting fresh is the only way to fix these stubborn issues.
