How Can I Replace My Current Linux System Without Making My Notebook Useless?

I've got a new notebook with a native Linux OS, but I'm really not happy with it. I can't access system files or storage, can't run certain programs, and customization is nearly impossible. I don't have a USB stick or DVD to install a different distro, so I'm wondering if I can do it similarly to how you would on Windows. I have plenty of time, so I'm fine if it takes a few hours to get everything up and running.

You might want to consider PXE booting, if your laptop supports that. However, honestly, just getting a low-cost USB drive (16GB or more) is way simpler. You could also try using your computer's hard drive as installation media, but I wouldn't recommend that approach.

Another option is to install via chroot, which lets you work around some limitations.
