How Can I Start Building a Portfolio as a Programmer?

I've been programming for about five years and have a history of working on various projects using Unity. Recently, I've been feeling stuck, especially since I've applied for jobs as a Unity developer and general programmer but haven't had much luck getting interviews. I suspect that not having a strong portfolio is part of the issue, and I'm ready to change that. What are some effective ways to build a portfolio? Should I create a GitHub account to showcase my work? Do I need to include the source code for my projects? What kind of information should I present for each project? I appreciate any advice or examples of good portfolios!

Start off by creating a few foundational projects on GitHub and then expand from there. It's also a good idea to set up a personal website, like your-name.com, where you can share your work and write about your experiences. It might feel awkward at first, but having a dedicated space for your work is definitely worth the effort!

Absolutely, building a portfolio website is a great step! You can host it on GitHub Pages and link each project back to its repository. Make sure to consider your overall skills in programming, including understanding web development, cloud services, and databases. Game dev can be niche, so diversifying your skills could help you in consulting or other programming roles. For each project, highlight what you did specifically, its features, and any challenges you overcame.
