How Can I Successfully Burn Videos to a DVD for My Sony Home Theater?

I'm trying to create a DVD with some wedding videos as a nice gift for my wife, but I'm having a lot of trouble getting the videos to work on my Sony home theater system. I've followed every step mentioned in the manual for my Sony DAV-DZ275 model, which is similar to the DAV-HDX275 for which I found an English manual. I've attempted around 20 different methods but haven't had any luck. I'm on Windows but I can switch to Linux if that would help. I'm using a laptop DVD drive connected via USB, which might be part of the problem. I've made backup copies of old DVDs without any issues, so I must be making some kind of mistake here. Could it possibly be the bitrate that's causing issues? I've tried various software like ImgBurn, DVD Flick, DVD Styler, AVStoDVD, ConvertXtoDVD, and Nero (both versions 6 and 8), adjusting settings based on the manual. After I attempt to burn the DVDs, Windows often recognizes them as blank, which is really frustrating!

It sounds like you might be burning the files as a data disc rather than a proper video DVD. Make sure you're converting the videos into a format that the DVD player can read. It could be worthwhile to review whether the software settings are set to burn a video DVD, not just dumping files onto the disc.

I've tried both options – burning a video DVD and a data DVD. I've gone through the manual, which mentions that it can read data DVDs in UDF with .avi/divx files, but nothing seems to work. It feels like I've exhausted all possibilities!
