I've recently installed Cachyos and cloned a repository to customize my setup with Hyprland and HyDE, which I'm really enjoying! However, I also want to try out KDE Plasma from another dotfiles repo I found. I prefer not to uninstall Hyprland or set up a separate home directory for a new distro installation. I'm looking for a way to install the second environment and easily switch between them at the login screen, while keeping my Hyprland configurations intact and being able to access my files in both desktop environments. Can anyone explain this process in detail? Thanks!

You can actually install both environments and simply choose which one you want to log into from your login manager! Just make sure to configure your settings in a way that maintains your existing Hyprland configs. As for your files, both DEs should be able to access the same home directory without any issues. You might need to tweak some settings under each environment to make sure they play well together, though. Good luck!
I recommend creating a second user account if you want to keep your configurations completely separated. This way, you can log into one DE or the other and avoid any potential conflicts with your settings. It also allows you to customize each environment to your liking without affecting the other. It's a neat solution!
Make sure to take regular backups and try any new configurations in a virtual machine first. It's really helpful to understand what you're doing before making changes. Also, check out the resources page in our wiki for more info on managing multiple DEs. Safety first!
Yeah, exactly! Just keep backups of your configs, and you’ll be good to go!
