How can I tell if my hard drive is actually being formatted during Zorin OS installation?

Hey everyone! I'm trying to install Zorin OS on an old hard drive and formatted it to EXT4 for the root directory. However, it's been stuck formatting for four hours with no progress bar, just a spinning mouse cursor. Is there a way to check if the format is actually happening or if the installer is malfunctioning?

It might be that your hard drive is failing. There are quick formats and long ones; Linux installs typically don’t do the lengthy formats unless it’s for sector alignment. Consider running a health check on your HDD.

I’m not sure about Zorin specifically, but formatting usually doesn’t take that long—more like a few seconds at most. Maybe it’s worth checking if the drive is okay?

There was a warning about potential lengthy formatting since I clicked "format" in the options, but the lack of a progress bar is worrying. Just a spinning cursor is driving me crazy!
