How Can I Tell If My Internet Was Compromised After a Scary Incident?

About a month ago, I had a strange experience with my internet. One night around 4 AM, my iPad and iPhone suddenly lost Wi-Fi connection while I was browsing on my iPhone. A message popped up saying, "This Connection Is Not Secure: this website does not support connecting securely over HTTPS. The information you see and enter on this website, including credit cards, phone numbers, and passwords, can be read and altered by other people." This made me freak out a bit, but since it was so early, I couldn't tell anyone right away. I turned everything off and waited until morning when the internet was back up. When I told my dad about it, he didn't seem too concerned, thinking it was probably nothing. He didn't let me check for weird logins because he has parental controls on me. I'm still anxious about it, especially since our Wi-Fi password isn't very secure. It's been over 30 days since, and I haven't noticed anything odd, but I want to know if there's any way to check if I'm still safe or if something suspicious is still happening.

Remember, IP addresses can change frequently, and it's not unusual for devices to connect and disconnect especially late at night. If you see unknown devices connected, it might just be your ISP reassigning IPs or other legitimate devices connecting. Strengthening your Wi-Fi password should help with that.

Got it! I really should talk to my dad about changing the password to something stronger.

What you experienced is pretty common and likely just an internet outage. If you aren't seeing any strange activity on your accounts now and your Wi-Fi is stable, it's probably nothing to worry about. Just make sure your Wi-Fi password is strong to keep it secure.

Thanks for the reassurance! I was a bit freaked out about it, but that helps calm me down. I just found it weird when the Wi-Fi went down but the router lights were still on.

The warning message you got just means that the site you were visiting didn't have a secure certificate, which doesn't imply a man in the middle attack. Sometimes ISPs do maintenance or restart equipment during low traffic hours like early morning. Your issue could have been completely on their end.
