I'm trying to sort out a mess with someone else's files. The user I'm dealing with has saved a copy of a SharePoint site to their OneDrive and has been working from there, missing out on the actual SharePoint folder that everyone else is using. Now I need to move about 20 GB of data from her OneDrive to the correct SharePoint site. I expect there will be a lot of file and folder conflicts since the two locations don't match up. What's the best method for efficiently transferring this data, especially since both are hosted on Microsoft's servers?

Honestly, if you're able to, try accessing the OneDrive files online. You can select the files and use the "Copy to" or "Move to" options at the top to send them directly to the necessary SharePoint site, avoiding any local issues.
You can use the SharePoint Migration Tool! It’s pretty straightforward - install a mini-agent on your workstation, connect it with the source and destination credentials, and then follow the migration wizard to select your OneDrive folders and the SharePoint destination. It'll handle a lot of the heavy lifting for you, and you can expect it to log what gets moved and what doesn’t, which is super helpful.
Yeah, this method is a lot easier than what I tried, which was syncing both accounts and manually dragging files around.
It’s a shame admins can’t disable sharing in OneDrive better, as that would prevent these kinds of mix-ups and keep everyone pointed toward SharePoint.
I’m currently migrating files from old systems into SharePoint too, and I can totally back this up! The logs are really useful for tracking progress.
