How can I transfer everything from my old SSD to a new one for my Linux Mint setup?

I recently bought a new SSD for my Thinkpad T420, which currently has Linux Mint installed. I've set up Mint just the way I like it and I'm wondering how to move everything over to the new SSD. Should I just back up my system and restore it on the new SSD? What steps do I need to follow? Do I need to use a USB stick for this, like when I initially installed Mint?

Another option is to use timeshift to create a snapshot of your system. But remember, you'll need to copy your "/home" folder separately to keep your settings. If your new SSD is equal to or larger than your current drive, you can clone everything using tools like Foxclone or Rescuezilla, and it should boot up just like before once you install the new drive.

Also, when you boot from the new SSD, don’t forget to expand the partition to make full use of the new space.

You can use Clonezilla, which is a pretty straightforward way to clone your old drive to the new SSD. Just make sure both drives are connected at the same time, and follow the cloning process. Clonezilla is great because it operates from its own bootable environment, so you won’t mess with the OS you’re currently using.
