How Can I Transfer Photos from My iPhone to an External Drive Using My PC?

I have an old iPhone 7 that I plan to give to a family member, but I want to keep the photos on it. I've heard I can plug my phone and an external 2TB storage device into my PC and drag and drop the photos. However, many photos don't transfer. For instance, there are 229 files in one folder, but only 79 transferred. I noticed many .AAE files, and I'm not entirely sure what those are. Is there an easier way to do this?

Those .AAE files are just edit data for your photos, so you can ignore them. The issue with not all photos transferring might be because some are stored in iCloud instead of on your phone. I recommend using the Photos app on your PC. Open it and select ‘Import’ then ‘From a connected device.’ It's usually more reliable than dragging and dropping and should help you get more of your photos.

Can I import them into a specific folder?
