How Can I Transition from Support to a DevOps or Cloud Role?

I could really use some guidance on switching my career to a DevOps or cloud role. I've been trying for a year now to find a new job without any luck, and it's getting me down. I've started learning about cloud technologies, but I'm not confident enough to take the certification exams just yet. I even attempted to build a DevOps project, but I'm struggling with how to showcase it on my resume. I'm currently in a support position and feel exhausted from the constant effort to make this change. My target salary is around 12 LPA, but I haven't received any interview calls. I've also looked into freelancing without success, and my attempts to explore internal opportunities have all been dead ends. What should I do to improve my chances?

I totally understand how tough this can be. When I was in a support role like you, I started learning Azure—it's a good path to follow! I recommend going for the AZ-104 certification; it covers essential cloud infrastructure topics. After that, dive into Azure DevOps with the AZ-400 certification too. I found these courses on Udemy really helpful. Learning things like Kubernetes and Terraform are also crucial. This method really helped me transition jobs, so it's worth checking out!

Signing up for structured courses on platforms like Udemy could be a great next step for you. Look for courses that include hands-on labs. I really liked Stephan Mareek's courses; he breaks things down well for certification prep. Jumping into real projects will help you learn effectively!

Freelancing in DevOps without experience can be a tough sell. Companies typically want seasoned pros. If internal switching isn’t working, focus on personal projects at home. There are plenty of resources and roads you can follow online to build up your skills—check out the DevOps roadmap for guidance.

You've got to give us some details about your skills! Just saying you're depressed and not getting anywhere isn’t enough for advice. If you're in a helpdesk role, consider looking for opportunities within your current company. Networking and showing your work will help more than freelancing at this point, especially without much experience.
