I've been using Linux on and off for over 20 years, but I'm now seriously trying to switch my main laptop to Linux Mint after a long break. I come from a background in app development and regularly use Linux in virtual machines and containers. Historically, I've found it tough to stick with Linux as my main OS. I have a complex password I generated for security reasons, but entering it every time I log in or unlock my device isn't practical for me. I've read that fingerprint login is supported in Mint 22.2, but my laptop doesn't have a built-in fingerprint scanner. Instead, I'm considering using a YubiKey. Can anyone help clarify if it's possible to set up a PIN or fingerprint system with Linux Mint? I'm open to switching distros if necessary. Thanks!

You can definitely keep your complex password safe by storing it securely for emergencies. Linux Mint 22.2 does support fingerprint logins, so if you ever get a compatible fingerprint scanner, that could be an option. Just make sure to pick one that works well with Linux!
Yeah, I noticed that my laptop lacks a built-in fingerprint scanner too. A YubiKey might be a solid alternative, but I'm not certain it can handle the same functions as a fingerprint reader. You might want to check compatibility!

I also found a guide that explains how to set up PIN login for Ubuntu, which Mint is based on. Here’s the link: [https://randomblog.hu/setting-up-pin-unlock-for-ubuntu-linux/](https://randomblog.hu/setting-up-pin-unlock-for-ubuntu-linux/). It might help you!
