I just found out that a friend of a friend can find someone's phone number and call them directly from their computer. He showed me this, and it seemed a bit too impressive to be true. I'm wondering if he somehow used my home WiFi access to track my number, or if he has some kind of powerful tracking software on his computer. Also, is this sort of thing likely illegal? Just for reference, my phone is an Android.

It's possible your phone number is linked to some online account or it could be publicly available. Some websites and services can correctly guess caller IDs, and they might have just found your number that way. You might want to Google your own number to see what pops up. Or, he could have just gotten your number from your friend, and it’s all just a prank. Not really a tech issue here!
Yeah, that makes sense! I wouldn't worry too much unless he has some other shady stuff going on.
