I'm looking to extend the life of my laptop, which I primarily use for photo editing with GIMP and Darktable. I've had enough of Adobe's subscription model. I want to switch to Linux but I'm not very tech-savvy. Will I need to back up my files to an external drive, or can I keep everything intact during the switch?
