How Do I Get Started with Linux for Gaming and Work?

I've been considering switching to Linux for my gaming and work needs, but I'm not sure where to start. I mainly use Adobe software, Blender, and some programming tools, and I want a distro that's fully customizable. Also, I've heard that sometimes people use pirated apps or repacked games – can Linux support that?

If you're leaning towards Adobe apps, you might want to dual-boot and consider Fedora, specifically the KDE version for customization. Most media industry software is compatible with Red Hat-based distributions. Blender will run smoothly on any distro, and you can use tools like Lutris for running repacked games, though it might need some setup. Also, there are awesome alternatives to Adobe apps like Photopea and Kdenlive if you're open to exploring!

Totally agree! Alternatives like DaVinci Resolve and Krita can really come in handy too, especially for video editing and painting.

Lutris is great! Just check the compatibility of recent games beforehand; ProtonDB can really help with that.

I suggest going with Fedora if you do, and don’t forget to check out the RPM Fusion site to get the licensed codecs needed for multimedia support.

I highly recommend trying Linux Mint as a beginner. It has a familiar Windows-like feel, is easy to install, and there's plenty of documentation available since it’s based on Ubuntu. For customization tips, Chris Titus Tech on YouTube has some great videos!

Just a heads up, getting Adobe products to run on Linux can be quite a hassle. If you really need those specific apps, you might want to consider dual-booting with Windows.
