I recently got my first laptop, which runs on Windows 11, but I'm really struggling with storage (it only has 57.2 GB, most of which is taken up by system files). To help with this, I bought a Maxine external hard drive, but I'm unsure how to connect it and make it work with File Explorer. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure the hard drive actually came with a USB cable. Once it’s connected, you should hear a sound from your laptop indicating it recognizes the drive. If you can’t see it in File Explorer, try reconnecting the USB. This external drive can’t extend C: drive space; you’d need a larger internal drive for that.
To connect your Maxine hard drive, all you need is a USB cable. Just plug it into your laptop, and it should show up as a new drive in File Explorer. Keep in mind that this won’t enlarge your C: drive; your external hard drive will appear as D: or E: instead. You can store files there or create a game library if you want!
It’s odd that your laptop’s storage is so small. If you confirm there’s really only 60GB, consider looking for a larger internal drive. But first, test the external drive on another computer. If it works there but not on yours, the issue might be the USB port. If it won’t show up at all, you might need to format it using Disk Management (right-click the Start button to find it).
Just a heads-up, when connecting your external hard drive, keep in mind programs may run slower when stored on it. It’s best for files you don’t use all the time. Also, be cautious when deleting files from your main drive—some might be essential to your system!
For sure! Better safe than sorry when it comes to system files.

Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely be careful about what I remove from my laptop.
