Hey everyone! I had an AMD Ryzen 7 3800X that I've used for years, but I recently tried to change the thermal paste for the first time. It turned out to be a disaster! The old paste was super sticky, kind of like cement, and no matter what I did—using isopropyl alcohol, heating it, or trying to scrape it off with a blade—I couldn't get the CPU off the cooler. I ended up trying to put it back in, but I couldn't see well and ended up bending some pins completely out of shape. Now I'm thinking it's time for a new CPU, but my problem is that I thought I needed to configure the BIOS with the old CPU still installed. That's not really possible right now. How should I go about installing a new CPU on my motherboard? Any advice would be appreciated!

You shouldn't worry too much! Many motherboards allow you to flash the BIOS using a USB stick, even without a CPU. Check your motherboard's website or manual for specific instructions on how to do it. It’s pretty straightforward.
A handy trick is to use dental floss to help pry the CPU off the heatsink. It can really cut through that old thermal paste without damaging anything. Give it a shot!
Thanks for the tip! I'll look into the manual and see if my motherboard supports that.
