Hey everyone! I'm a noob builder and I'm trying to test my MSI Z790-P motherboard before I install it in the case. I'm confused about which pins to short for starting the motherboard—thought it was the JFP1 pins, but it's not working.
It seems like there might be a power issue with my PSU since it only turns on when I use the paper clip method. I've connected all the necessary cables (600W for the GPU, CPU cables, ATX 24-pin cables), but it's still not turning on.
I'm using an MSI A850GL PCIE PSU. I'm starting to think that the motherboard isn't getting power. Should the PSU fan be running when it's on and connected to the motherboard? Because it only spins when I do the paper clip test.
Wait! I just used the paper clip instead of a screwdriver to short the pins while typing this, and it worked! LOL!

Are you shorting the right pins from the front panel header? JFP1 is the full cluster, and each pin serves a different purpose. Make sure you're looking at the manual for the correct pairing to start it up.
Yeah, I've tried pretty much every pin combo with the PSU on and off, but the PSU fan isn't running when I turn it on. Is it supposed to? It only fires up with the paper clip.
