How Do I Sign an XML File on a Mac for a Polish Police Check?

Hey everyone! I'm not very tech-savvy (I basically know nothing about computers or programming), and I have a Mac. I need to sign an XML file as part of my application for a police check from the Polish government, but I'm confused. The instructions tell me to download a zip file, extract it, and sign the XML file using some software from my provider (it needs to be an external signature). Then I'm supposed to send the signed file without changing its name. I have a document number and a link to the XML file, but that's as much help as I got. I'm feeling really lost here. Can anyone offer any advice before I throw in the towel?

You might be looking for a qualified electronic signature! I found some good info that breaks down two types of electronic signatures used in Poland. Check out this resource for more details: [this link](https://www.biznes.gov.pl/pl/portal/0075#1) and also [this one](https://eurocert.pl/en/how-to-make-electronic-signature-in-poland/). It could really help you figure out what you need!

It sounds like you're struggling with the whole signing process, which can be confusing! I’d suggest looking into Polish subreddits or forums where they might explain their digital signing system better. Many European countries have specific methods for digital signatures, and you might need a digital ID to get started. Best of luck!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll check those places out. It’s just been really hard to find straightforward info.

The key part of your instruction is "software from your provider." It looks like this page might help you out: [this link](https://www.biznes.gov.pl/en/portal/004725) talks about the software you need to sign XML files in Poland. Hopefully, that clears things up!

Have you checked what type of signature they’re asking for? If it’s a PGP signature, you’d need a public-private key pair, and I’m not sure if the Polish government has a public key infrastructure for that. But they could just want you to sign it traditionally with your name. That might be worth looking into!
