I'm currently unemployed and don't have any formal degrees or qualifications. However, I've got a laptop, internet access, and plenty of free time. I have a strong interest in computers and the internet, and I'm skilled at using them. I've been looking into DevOps as a potential career path and I want to get started right away. What should my first step be? Thanks for any guidance! ❤️

You're in a good spot! Many DevOps engineers are self-taught. Start by installing Linux and get comfy with the terminal. Learn Git and basic shell scripting, and follow Mischa's DevOps Roadmap. If you’re looking for more hands-on guidance, KubeCraft is a great resource for beginners.

Diving into the world of Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (like Azure or AWS) is essential. Learn about CI/CD pipelines and scripting languages such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python. Certifications like AWS Cloud Practitioner can also be helpful, but remember, real-world problem-solving is key to succeeding in DevOps.

Your first move should be to gain some experience, either in development or operations. The job market is tough, and it’s competitive since many candidates have degrees and experience. Focus on building your skills first before looking for jobs.

Check out the DevOps Roadmap at roadmap.sh/devops. It’s crucial to get familiar with the basics. Start learning about Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure. If you have any sysadmin experience, try to leverage that.
