How Do You Handle Checklists for Onboarding and Offboarding?

I'm exploring better ways to manage checklists for onboarding and offboarding in my organization. We currently use ServiceDesk Plus to track tasks, but when it comes to setting up application permissions according to roles, it gets tricky. Right now, we maintain a Word document with role-specific access requirements, which often leads to missing items, since it's easy to mark a task as complete without catching everything in the document. I'm considering options like maintaining separate checklists per role, using Microsoft Forms, or even utilizing the checklist feature in ServiceDesk Plus, though it seems a bit limited. I'd love to hear how others tackle onboarding processes and if achieving a flawless approach is a realistic goal.

Honestly, Excel is your best friend! If there's an IT task that can't be handled with Excel, it probably doesn't need to be done. You can set up dynamic templates to make it work for different roles.

Sounds like you need to make the most of your Identity and Access Management (IAM) solution. Setting up OpenID Connect for your apps and creating role-based access groups will save you a lot of headaches. If that's not an option, maybe try Ansible playbooks for configuring permissions based on the defined roles.

Why not automate everything with PowerShell? You can create dynamic groups using script results and set up Single Sign-On (SSO) for all your apps - makes everything so much smoother!

You should really consider integrating your HRIS with automation tools. Using SCIM, API, and scripts can streamline the process a ton. Relying on manual checks against Word docs raises security issues, especially in offboarding. Better to automate now than face trouble later!

We're using the checklist feature in ServiceDesk Plus. It works alright, although I found it annoying that there's a limit of 25 items per checklist. It forces you to break larger ones into multiple lists. But once you set up the templates, they make it easier to manage tasks overall!
