How Long Does It Take to Add Devices to AppleCare After Dropping Carrier Insurance?

Has anyone figured out the timeline for when you can add devices to AppleCare after dropping your carrier's insurance? We recently got new iPhone 17s with AT&T and are switching to AppleCare. I spoke with Apple support, and they mentioned that we need to cancel the T-Mobile and Xfinity insurance first, then the devices should be eligible within 72 hours. We're really eager to get this squared away since we're risk-averse. I tried canceling my iPad's insurance with T-Mobile last Thursday to test things out, but it hasn't shown up as eligible yet in the AppleCare section. I'm hoping it really won't take longer than those 72 hours. We want to make sure everything is set up properly since we all have our own AC1 accounts.

Honestly, I’ve always skipped phone insurance and never needed it, but I understand why some might find it important. You’ve got new phones, so it’s good to be cautious, especially if you’re used to having some kind of coverage. But remember, not everyone feels like they need it, so do what feels right for you.

Exactly! It's all about personal preference. Just make sure you’re comfortable with your choice.

I get the concern about it being risky. Just try to avoid dropping your phone for a few days while you wait. Apple’s system can take a little time to update. I’ve had to wait a similar amount after canceling insurance, so hopefully, it’ll be available soon for you!

That's good to know! Just trying to keep the phone safe until I can get it added.
