I'm currently in an AWS cloud support position in India and studying for the AWS Solutions Architect Associate exam. My aim is to transition into a DevOps Engineer role in a product or startup environment by 2026. Since I'm starting from scratch in DevOps, I'm looking for practical advice on how long it usually takes to be ready for job opportunities. What key skills should I focus on for product or startup companies? Should I prioritize hands-on projects or certifications after passing the SAA exam? Any honest guidance or roadmap would be really appreciated!

Having 10+ years of experience in the field, I can say certifications are nice but not everything. Employers value real experience more. Make sure you’re familiar with cloud providers, infrastructure as code tools like Terraform or Docker, and CI/CD pipelines. Start with basic projects that you can show off during interviews.
Realistically, you might need about 3-6 months. Focus on this learning path: Linux -> Docker -> Kubernetes -> AWS/GCP/Azure -> Infrastructure as Code -> CI/CD -> Monitoring. It’s a lot, but that's the way to go!
You’ll need more than just certifications and home labs. Gaining real-world experience is essential—either as a developer or administrator. It's a significant leap from support to DevOps, so be prepared for that.
Becoming 'job-ready' can vary widely. It really depends on what you're looking for in a role. If you're moving from cloud support to DevOps, you need to explore the new skills required.
Getting hands-on experience is crucial. Start working on projects that involve networking and database basics. Utilize resources like AWS Builder and YouTube tutorials to build your skills.

I need to transition from cloud support to DevOps. My daily tasks involve AWS operations, checking EC2, managing IAM tasks, and basic troubleshooting. So, this is a big shift for me.
