How Long to Build My Own Website as an ESL Teacher?

Hey everyone! I'm an online ESL teacher and I'm looking to start my own business in this field. I want to create a personalized website that reflects my teaching style and niche. I was thinking about revisiting W3Schools since I found it easy to understand before. If I dedicate my time and effort, how long do you think it could realistically take to create a functioning website? It won't be overly complex at first. I know I could hire someone, but I'm keen on doing this myself. If there are better resources than W3Schools, I'd appreciate any recommendations. Thanks for your help!

Based on my experience, I recommend using WordPress (.org version since it gives you more control and is free). It took me a few weeks to get the hang of it, especially with a good theme. If you have a grasp of CSS and HTML, you can customize it further. If you're looking to learn HTML, CSS, and JavaScript through this process, the learning curve for getting a basic website up isn’t too steep at all.

I was curious about that too! Are you mainly selling your ESL services or focusing on web design? Whatever it is, I think you should choose what aligns best with your skills and makes the most sense financially.

There are tons of services out there that can build your site for a low cost. Honestly, you might spend more time trying to figure it out than it’s worth. If you really want to build it yourself, you can consider cheaper options like Fiverr, where someone could do it for around $100 in no time. However, just a thought—sometimes it’s smarter to focus on your core business rather than doing everything yourself. Don’t forget to set up a Google business profile before you launch your site!
