I recently received a threatening message from someone claiming to have my IP address because I ignored their friend request. I'm feeling uneasy about it and want to know what steps I can take to protect myself. Is it actually a problem, or is it just a form of scare tactics?

Having an IP address doesn’t mean someone can track you down easily. It’s mostly just a scare tactic. IPs usually don’t provide exact locations, and most people don’t know how to leverage them effectively even if they could. Just stay safe online!

Exactly! Just block him and move on.

Thank you for clarifying that!

The guy likely doesn't have any real power. If you didn't click on any suspicious links, chances are he’s bluffing. I'd suggest ignoring him. Just out of curiosity, did he actually give you an IP address?

He just said he had one, but didn't show it to me.

That’s a classic intimidation tactic—don’t let it get to you!

If you're worried, you could reboot your router to potentially change your IP address. Just unplug it for a while and plug it back in. Most of the time, it will assign you a new one. But really, unless he's part of law enforcement, he probably can't do much with just an IP address.

I just did that—hopefully it helps!

Make sure to check your device’s security settings too!

If someone harasses you over this, don't hesitate to report it. It's always better to be safe than sorry. And keep your router secure to prevent any potential access!

Thanks for the tip!

I’ll definitely consider that!

IP addresses sound scary, but in reality, they’re not as big of a deal as they seem. Most people can't pinpoint your exact location just from your IP. They might be able to guess what city you're in, but that’s about it. Plus, IPs change regularly, so don’t stress too much!

If you're really concerned, consider using a VPN for extra safety!

Thanks for the reassurance!
