How Should I Upgrade My Outdated PC for Gaming and Video Editing?

I've got an older PC setup and I'm feeling the need to update. My current specs are: Asus Z87 Motherboard, Gskill Sniper 4x4GB DDR3 RAM, EVGA GTX 1070ti 8GB, Intel Core i7-4790k 4GHz processor, and a Samsung 840 Evo 250GB SSD. I want to play games like Fortnite, GTA, and Valorant without frame tearing, but I'm also using heavy software like DaVinci Resolve for video editing. Both my games and DaVinci crash even on low settings. Should I start fresh with building a new PC or is there a way to upgrade parts?

Starting from scratch might be your best bet, especially since your current setup is pretty outdated. What’s your budget? If you're aiming around $1k to $2k, you should be able to get a solid new build without having to spend a fortune. Let’s take a look at what kind of components you could choose!

I'm also in the US and I've noticed prices can be pretty reasonable lately. Just be mindful of what parts you want to keep, as some might still be useful!

If you want to salvage any parts, check which of your components can be reused, like your GPU or maybe even your SSD. It really depends on which platform you choose for your upgrade. Don't be afraid to explore a totally new setup; sometimes starting fresh can save you headaches down the line!

True! It can be more hassle to upgrade old parts when they don’t play nice together. Starting fresh lets you design your build for the future.

Definitely pay attention to your RAM for video editing. A minimum of 32GB is recommended, but 64GB is ideal if you’re working extensively with applications like DaVinci Resolve. A solid Intel CPU paired with a strong Nvidia GPU will serve you well. Maybe consider something like the 4070 for good performance without breaking the bank.
